Maintenance and Care Instructions

For all food-contact wood items

Please Note:

After washing, your board/spoon may start to feel fuzzy and maybe not as smooth. This is normal. As water makes contact with the wood surface, the fibers in the wood begin to swell and slightly rise up. Over time and use, these fibers will tame and the wood will become “seasoned”.

Hand Wash Only

Using a towel, brush or sponge, gently wipe all surfaces of the board with mild detergent and hot water.

Spray to rinse.

Dry immediately.

*NEVER IMMERSE OR SOAK IN WATER

*DO NOT STORE  WHERE ITEMS MAY SIT IN PUDDLES OF WATER

* DO NOT STORE ITEMS STACKED ON TOP OF ONE ANOTHER


Conditioning

It is very important to oil and condition your wood board/spoon often. Lack of oiling can result in warping and cracking of the wood. I recommend wiping  with mineral oil, letting it sit for 15 minutes and then wiping up any oil that hasn’t been absorbed. If you are using your board/spoon daily, I also recommend applying my food-safe wood conditioner (sold separately) or a commercial “cutting board conditioner” at least twice a month. Simply rub the conditioner on with a soft cloth or paper towel, let sit for about 20 minutes and then buff dry with a soft cloth.


How can you tell when it's time to oil? 

            Using your fingertips, sprinkle a few drops of water over your board or utensil. If it has been oiled properly, water will bead up on the surface. Over time, its water-repellent qualities will start to diminish. Eventually, the water will look like it's about to get absorbed into the wood even as it first lands on it. That is a sign that you're ready for another layer of oil. When your board or utensil(s) starts to look dry and the color is faded, you’ve probably waited a little too long and you’ll want to oil it a few times before using again.
